|

| |
Harold (Hal) Margolis, MD, PDVI's Director since 2004, will be leaving the program effective March 30, 2010 to become Chief of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's dengue branch, located in Puerto Rico. Margolis, who is a pediatrician and fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, brought great expertise to PDVI in the introduction and evaluation of new vaccines, molecular epidemiology, and the development and propagation of evidence-based health policy. Prior to joining PDVI, Margolis directed viral hepatitis research and prevention programs at CDC, where he played an instrumental role in the worldwide introduction of the hepatitis B vaccine. Under his guidance, PDVI grew into an internationally recognized entity that has played crucial roles in getting a dengue vaccine to market. A forthcoming issue of this newsletter will carry an in-depth interview with Margolis on his tenure at PDVI, his future work at CDC, and the important interplay between the two organizations. |

John Clemens, MD, Director General of IVI, has launched an international search for a successor for Dr. Margolis. Along with Clemens, the three PDVI program directors (Scott Halstead - Research; Bill Letson - Evaluation; and Richard Mahoney - Access) will ensure continued effective implementation of the PDVI programs during this transition. |
| |
Joel Kuritsky, MD, Deputy Director of PDVI since September 2006, left the program in November, 2009. He assumed the post of Medical Advisor to USAID's Supply Chain Management Project. The medical advisor will assist the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator, USAID, other US Government agencies, partners, host governments and international organizations in the design and implementation of HIV/AIDS supply chain management activities and their effective integration in HIV/AIDS care and treatment programs. Kuritsky will relocate to the Washington, DC area and will be working in Africa, Asia and Latin America. |
| |
Ole Wichmann, MD, relocated to Berlin in July, where he assumed responsibility for overseeing Germany's national immunization programs as a Head of the Immunization Unit at the Robert Koch Institute. He had served as a Medical Epidemiologist at PDVI since 2007. |

Best wishes to Hal, Joel, and Ole in their future endeavors. |
