Joel Kuritsky, M.D.
 
Joel Kuritsky, M.D. is the Deputy Director of the Pediatric Dengue Vaccine Initiative effective September 18, 2006. He has twenty-five years of public health experience. He retired from the United States Public Health Service at the Centers for Disease Control in July of 2005, after 23 years of service. In his career at CDC, Dr. Kuritsky served as an EIS Officer in Atlanta and the state of Minnesota, was the Deputy and then Director of the Immunization Services Division in the National Immunization Program. From 2001 to 2002 he served as a principle advisor to the Director of the National Immunization Program for Smallpox preparedness. From 2002 to 2005, he was the branch chief and advisor to the director of the Treatment and Care Branch in the Global AIDS Program. In addition, from 1984 to 1988, he was a branch chief at the Food and Drug Administration in the Office of Drugs and Biologics. From 1988 to 1995, Dr. Kuritsky was seconded from the United States Public Health Service to United States Agency for International Development in Bolivia as a Technical Advisor on AIDS and Child Survival. Immediately prior to this appointment, Dr. Kuritsky served as the Medical Advisor to the new Supply Chain Management Division at the Office of HIV/AIDS at the United States Agency for International Development. This division is responsible for overseeing the supply of ARVs and other commodities for the President¡¯s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Dr. Kuritsky is trained in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Wadsworth VA Hospital in Los Angeles and clinical infectious diseases at the University of New Mexico.
