The Rockefeller Foundation provided the initial funding that led to the founding of the PDVI. Its first grant to the IVI supported the December 2001 meeting in Ho Chi Minh City and also the efforts to form the PDVI and develop a proposal to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In its new indication of strong support for the PDVI, the Rockefeller Foundation awarded continuing support of $400,000 for one year.
